10 Oct, 2019

The global business processes outsourcing (BPO) market is relatively fragmented, with a large number of small players. The top ten competitors in the market made up to 21.24% of the total market in 2018. However, this is expected to change during the forecast period between 2018 to 2022, as majority of the players are trying to grow inorganically by acquiring smaller companies to improve product portfolio and expand their geographical outreach. Automatic Data Processing, Inc. (ADP) was the largest competitor with 4.88% of the market in 2018, followed by Accenture plc with 2.89%. Other major players in the BPO services market include Conduent Inc., Teleperformance SE, Paychex, Inc., DXC Technology Company and Arvato Bertelsmann, Tata Consultancy Services Limited, Genpact Ltd., and Concentrix.

Automatic Data Processing, Inc. (ADP) was the largest competitor in the global BPO services market in 2018, with a 4.88% market share. It is involved in offering Human Resource Outsourcing services and cloud based Human Capital Management (HCM) solutions to its customers. The company was established in the year 1949 and is headquartered in New Jersey, USA. Automatic Data Processing’s growth strategy aims at strengthening its outsourcing capabilities through different acquisitions and mergers. For instance, in August 2018, it completed the acquisition of the US based payroll management service provider, Celergo, to increase its payroll service capabilities. This will enable Automatic Data Processing to increase its presence in the rapidly growing payroll outsourcing market.

Accenture plc was the second largest competitor in the business processes outsourcing market in 2018, with 2.89% share of the market. Accenture is a global professional services company, serving a broad range of services such as consulting, technology, and outsourcing services worldwide. The company was incorporated in 2009 and is headquartered in Dublin, Ireland. As of August 2018, it had 459,000 employees worldwide. Accenture’s growth strategy aims at investing in newer technologies to improve its client’s offerings. For instance, in April 2017, it acquired Genfour, a UK based private automation service provider. This acquisition enables Accenture to improve its client offerings with the use of intelligent automation that will help its clients to make better decisions and offer improved services to their customers.

The competitive landscape of the global BPO services market is changing as more and more mid-sized companies are fast-emerging. WNS (Holdings) Limited, an Indian based BPO service provider, was the fastest growing emerging mid-size company in 2018. WNS was followed by KellyOCG, ManpowerGroup, Willis Towers Watson plc and EXL Service. All these companies have bases in developing nations such as India and the Philippines.
