Camping and caravanning is the activity of staying and spending holidays in outdoor camps and caravans with equipment such as cooking utensils, hiking and trekking equipment, and other entertainment goods. The global camping and caravanning market is expected to grow from nearly $50 billion in 2019 to around $67 billion in 2023 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 7.5%.

Over the past few years, there have been major developments which have shaped the camping and caravanning industry. Campers who are not interested in extra activities such as stargazing and who experience difficulty in maneuvering and maintaining their camps are interested in smaller and simpler model caravans. According to the Kampgrounds of America’s North American Camping Report 2019, around 22% of African American campers preferred smaller, motorized Class B recreational vehicles (RVs).

Campers are also trying different types of camping experiences. Constant innovation and modern technology have changed the camping industry in the way it interacts with camping lovers. Innovation in product designs has assisted camping lovers. Improvements in tent technology, water-repellent sleeping bags, and eco-friendly equipment have made the experience more comfortable. Companies such as Gigwam and BoginaBag are offering innovative products such as connectable tent system and portable & sanitary camping toilet to campers.

As a result of the modern digital age, campers are giving more importance to internet access while camping. Nowadays, campgrounds and RV parks are offering high speed Wi-Fi and internet amenities for campers. Campgrounds are offering internet access in clubhouses, recreation halls, and desktop kiosks. According to the Kampground Survey, there was a substantial growth from the year 2016 to 2018 in the percentage of teens who say that using technology enhances their camping experience. It also reveals that about 83% of all campers bring cell phones when they are camping, and 70% of the survey respondents say they go online at least once.
