Neurotoxins Market Definition
Neurotoxins refer to a class of biological or synthetic substances that adversely affect the structure or function of the nervous system by disrupting neural transmission, damaging nerve cells, or altering neurotransmitter activity.
The neurotoxin market consists of sales, by entities (organizations, sole traders or partnerships), of neurotoxin naturally derived, such as botulinum toxin from clostridium botulinum, or synthetically engineered for therapeutic applications. While certain neurotoxins pose environmental and biological hazards, others are used in controlled doses for medical and cosmetic purposes. In healthcare, purified neurotoxins are primarily used to treat a range of neuromuscular and neurological disorders, including chronic migraine, cervical dystonia, spasticity and hyperhidrosis, as well as for aesthetic treatments to reduce facial wrinkles.
